To Combat Opioids, Missouri Medicaid Opens Access to Chiropractic

Missouri’s Department of Social Services (DSS) has announced that access to chiropractic services and other non-drug pain treatments will now be made available in the state’s Medicaid program to help diminish the use of opioids and provide relief for those suffering from chronic pain. In an announcement, DSS Director Randall Williams, MD, stated, “Recognizing the importance of alternative therapies in the treatment of chronic pain is a major milestone in our state’s response to preventing substance use disorder, which often begins with prescription medications and self-medication for pain management.”
